About Volunteering
How The Program Works
Signing Up
-
By registering you agree to get periodic updates on open requests. You are not committing to doing any work... yet.
 -
When you see a project that you are willing and able to help with, then contact us and we'll put you to work.
 -
Email yardmothers@gmail.com with any questions
-
or call/text 650-383-7425

 -

Once registered you will be provided with full contact information for the program coordinator
Here’s how client requests are received
When a request for help is made and/or an application is received, we review to confirm that they fit the requirements, and spirit, of the program.
Then we schedule an on-site interview to look at the property and see what work is requested. We summarize the project with:
General site location
Describe the project request
Provide a list of tools and resources that the client has at their home
Provide a list of tools and resources that we think are needed for the project
Photos of the areas where help is needed
A current list and description of all outstanding requests are posted on the Fairy Yardmothers website: <HERE>
Note: Client names, addresses and contact information are not included in the summaries
Monthly Work Days
There are no work days currently scheduled
-
The Fairy Yardmothers sometimes schedules group work days. Usually that will be 8:30am-12noon on a Saturday. See our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/FairyYardmothersLodi) for the latest updates.
 -
Check out the Clients Requests page to view current projects.
 -
If you're willing to help out, contact us to let us know (yardmothers@gmail.com or call/text 650-383-7425)
 -
Prior to the work day, a coordinator will contact you to confirm details (e.g. where to meet, which projects we'll be taking on, any tools/supplies needed, etc.)
 -
If your plans change and won't be available, PLEASE let us know. Otherwise we'll be expecting you and counting on you to help out.

Ad-hoc volunteering
-
If you are willing to work on your own schedule, you can take on individual projects of your choosing.
 -
If/when you see a request that you are willing and able to take on:
-
Contact the Fairy Yardmothers (yardmothers@gmail.com or call/text 650-383-7425)
 -
Provide the project number (e.g. FY2401)

 -
 -
The Fairy Yardmothers will:
-
Provide contact information (name, address, phone) for the client
 -
Yardmothers will also contact the client to let them know to expect you to contact them

 -
 -
The volunteer should contact the client and arrange for a mutually convenient time to go out to begin the work.

Gardening Tools
Everyone asks me about tools...
-
In the detailed project description, I include a list of:
-
Tools that the client says that they have and you can use
 -
The tools that I think would be required or useful for the project

 -
 -
In most cases, it would be great if you could bring your own tools needed for the job.
 -
Many projects include pulling weeds. For these, the only things that you really need are gloves, though other standard gardening tools could be useful.
 -
If you're participating in one of work days, I usually bring some tools to share. In the details for the specific work day I will include a list of what I'll bring and what I think would be helpful if you could bring.
 -
When in doubt, contact me if you have questions.

Additional info
-
If you need me involved or have questions, please don't hesitate to contact the Fairy Yardmothers
 -
Once completed it is appreciated if you could contact us to confirm that the project has been completed.
 -
Also, any photos taken before or after completion would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Rick "Yardmother" Freedman
